Have you ever woken up and thought, “Why can’t I just feel motivated to create today?”
What if I told you there’s a secret to motivation you might not be harnessing? Here’s the thing, friend, effort must be pleasurable to be sustained. I know… SO much easier said than done, but hear me out—
If you’re pushing yourself to do something only for a future goal or reward, you’ll find that you’re enjoying the process less and less over time.
Why?
Because you cannot will yourself to do something forever if you’re not enjoying it. Sure, you can do it for a season, but it won’t last.
To have long-term success and motivation, you must be more excited about the activity, project, creation, work, etc., than any external validation, accolade, metric, or financial goal.
Knowing this should inspire us to evaluate all the things we do—within our control, of course. We must ask ourselves: What about this inspired, excites, or moves me?
When things get difficult, remind yourself that you are doing this by choice and because you love it.
That’s enough motivation to carry you through it all.
